It's all the Mayo's fault.

The habit of collecting alternative pets began early for Jesse. Her parents, the Mayo's, nourished it. When they were able to move to a farm her senior year, her 17th birthday gift was a little goat. Little did they know, he would grow in an ornery goat with superior longevity. Now that Jesse has settled in the mountains with her banjo playin', mail slingin' husband Pete (who has learned to love goats) she has finally moved her goats off the Mayo farm. Hand in hand, Jesse and Pete are embarking on a journey of sustainability on their small mountain "piece of the pie" in beautiful western NC. We are on a path to live simply, to slow down and appreciate where our food comes from. Welcome to Trip Trap Mountain Homestead~ come on over, and stay awhile.

Lilybelle with her namesake, Lily of the Valley. Spring 2011

Once upon a time there were three billy goats, who were to go up the hillside to make themselves fat, and the name of all three was "Gruff".
On the way up was a bridge over a cascading stream they had to cross; and under the bridge lived a great ugly troll, with eyes as big as saucers, and nose as big as a poker.
So first of all came the youngest billy goat Gruff to cross the bridge.
"Trip trap trip trap!" went the bridge.
"Who's that tripping over my bridge?" roared the troll.

"Oh, it is only I, the tiniest Billy Goat Gruff, and I'm going up to the hillside to make myself fat," said the billy goat with such a small voice.
"Now I'm coming to gobble you up," said the troll.
"Oh, no! Pray don't take me. I'm too little, that I am," said the billy goat. "Wait a second till the second Billy Goat Gruff comes. He's much bigger."
"Well be off with you," said the troll.
